HOW I GOT THE SHOT: NIGHT LIGHT

HIGTS

This is one of the earlier images during my photographic journey. I have never really talked about this one. So, I decided here’s my chance to let everyone know how I got this shot.

Many times this shot has been mistaken for an HDR image. It’s actually straight out of the camera with a little color saturation.

When I took this shot, I was returning from deployment and still learning a lot of the basics in photography. I wanted to try my luck with low lighting with my Nikon D60. Yes, I know that I was going to need a tripod to keep my camera still with the slower shutter speed. The waves were coming in pretty hard and frequently. This made a perfect situation for soft water in this photograph. I set up my tripod and secured the D60 on top and framed my shot to catch smooth waves and light from the pier. It took several tries, but I finally set my camera to a f/5.6 aperture and 13 sec shutter speed. Surprisingly, I was able to get this shot without any noise using the Nikon D60.
